ニュース番組レポーターのアダムは、アラスカの厚い氷に閉ざされて身動きが取れなくなってしまったクジラの親子を助けようと、元彼女で環境保護団体のレイチェルを引き込み救出運動を世界に訴える。
冷戦末期の1988年、アメリカとロシア、石油会社や環境保護団体など世界が心を一つにして協力した実話。
