アマゾンのシャーマンで部族の最後の生き残りでもあるカラマカテは、他者との接触を拒み独りで暮らしていた。ある日、聖なる樹木“ヤクルナ”の調査にやってきたアメリカ人植物学者のエヴァンとの偶然の出会いにより、彼は大きく揺さぶられる。彼らはアマゾンの深部にカヌーで漕ぎ出した。やがてカラマカテは徐々に記憶を取り戻しはじめる…。
