2013年4月のボストンマラソン開催中、多くの死傷者を出した爆弾テロ事件。恋人のゴールを迎えるためにゴール付近にいたジェフ・ボウマンは爆発に巻き込まれ両足を失う。犯人を目撃していたため捜査に協力し、生還を果たしたジェフを人々はヒーローと祭り上げたが、彼と恋人のエリンには精神的にも肉体的にも過酷な日々が待ち受けていた…。
