11才の少年ヘンリーは、ウェイトレスをして働く母親のスーザンと弟のピーターの三人で暮らしている。彼は隣に住むクリスティーナに恋をするが、彼女は義父であるグレンから虐待を受けていることに気づき、クリスティーナを救出する計画を考えだし一冊の本にまとめる。その本を見つけたスーザンとピーターは、ヘンリーの計画に協力することに…。
