火星のタンタロス基地では８名のクルーにより、史上初の有人探査ミッションが遂行され最終日を迎えていた。帰還準備が進むなか研究員のマルコは、生命が存在した証拠となるバクテリアの化石を発見し、サンプル採取のため仲間のハリントンと基地を抜け出す。２人は掘削を始めるが地面が崩落しマルコが転落。隊員達がマルコの捜索に向うが…。
