ニューヨークで平凡に暮らしていた15歳の少女クラリーは、クラブで若者たちによる殺害現場を目撃する。彼女はこれ機に、自分が世界を魔物たちから守ろうとした戦士、天使と人間のハーフの秘密部隊シャドウハンターズの子孫であることを知る。クラリーは母親が魔物に襲撃されたのが分かり、シャドウハンターズのグループに加わる決意をする。
