1630年代、魔女狩りで有名なニューイングランド地方。敬虔なキリスト教信者のウィリアムとキャサリンの夫婦は、5人の子供と一緒にイギリスから入植し、村外れの森の手前に引っ越してくる。新たな生活をスタートさせた一家だが、末っ子の突然の消失など不運な出来事が起こり始める。やがて家族は長女トマシンが魔女ではないかと疑い始め…。
