脚本家ダルトン・トランボはハリウッド黄金期に第一線で活躍した。しかし第二次世界大戦後、赤狩りの標的となり、下院非米活動委員会への協力を拒んだために投獄されてしまう。釈放された後もハリウッドでの居場所を失ったトランボだが、家族や映画関係者らに支えられ、“ローマの休日”などの脚本を偽名で書き、二度のアカデミー賞に輝く…。
